What if every negative thought you had about yourself equaled an extra pound of fat in your body?

Updated: Aug 18, 2019

I have come to understand that any type of personal change including permanent weight loss begins with loving ourselves. We won’t lose fat by beating ourselves up and if we do it will quickly return and bring more of its fat cell friends. Recovery from any negative behaviors without mastering some level of self-care will not succeed. Permanent weight loss (or any other change) occurs as a result of loving and taking care of ourselves as best we can, from where we are. And to better define accepting ourselves, it doesn’t mean you have to make the fat right, just quit making it wrong. Find a neutral space of viewing it as it just is. It is a situation you are moving through. So this is my question: what is the worst thing about accepting yourself and loving yourself exactly where you are right now? I know you have a lot of stories around it like, “this fat Isn’t good for my health“, “nobody will ever love me at this size” etc. Some stories are true and some are fictional. Loving and accepting yourself, in this moment, is the beginning. You have some great reasons for wanting to change and some scare tactics but all I’m talking about right now is how can you best love/accept yourself in this moment? Maybe it’s just by taking a deep breath slowly, walking outside and enjoying something in nature, petting your cat, attending a 12 step meeting or indulging in some positive affirmations or gratitudes. Little steps towards loving and accepting yourself can extrapolate out to a more loving and joyous lifestyle. That is the beginning groundwork for permanent change and weight loss. Love yourself at whatever size you’re at right now and you can begin to love yourself to a smaller size. You will find that viewing your goals through the lens of love you can find ways to change which are positive for you and your health.
