Grief

Updated: Nov 30, 2019

Grief is an odd emotion. It is the experience of playing hide and seek, grief is always “it.” As you hide, you don’t know when the counting ends. You think you’re well hidden but it sneaks up behind you and grabs you. Sometimes it counts to 500 before it comes to find you and other times it counts to three. Either way you are caught unaware and surprised. When it counts to 500, you think you might be done with it that you can get on with your life without it disrupting things. And when it counts to three and comes for you, you feel like you’re never going to get away from it. My experience is to quit hiding. Welcome it when you can and deal with it as best you can when it comes unexpectedly and with poor timing. If you can sit with it and just feel the anguish, cry the many tears, know that in some small way you are honoring the love you had for whatever it is you’ve lost. Many people wonder what is natural grieving and what is not. When the grieving doesn’t stop and it is disrupting your life or you notice that you’re not dealing with it as well as you thought, then you should seek help. Grief can be very complicated, if you are struggling please get assistance with it.
